The Thermo-ply Advantage

The facts are simple. In the real world, Thermo-ply is the best performing sheathing product made, because Thermo-ply has these performance advantages:

Thermo-ply controls air infiltration
Energy savings are a key consideration in any building, and one way to get those savings is to eliminate air infiltration. Thermo-ply resists air infiltration better than any other sheathing product made.

Thermo-ply is tough
Far stronger than foam or fiberboard sheathings, Thermo-ply holds up under rough on-site handling. Workers can walk on it. And Thermo-ply resists puncture, breakage and vandalism.

In addition, Thermo-ply's incredible strength eliminates the need for additional corner bracing.

Thermo-ply is lightweight
Thermo-ply can be handled easily by one worker. Its combined strength and light weight allow entire walls to be constructed with Thermo-ply, then lifted into place.

Thermo-ply is cost-effective
Since Thermo-ply is resistant to worksite damage, there is less waste and less site cleanup after the building is built. Window and door openings are simply cut with a knife. Time and labor savings result.

Also available immediately in 9' and 10' lengths that eliminate waste, in most cases Thermo-ply costs less than other sheathing products.

Advantages in thermal performance
A number of factors contribute to home energy efficiency. Of these, air infiltration control is one of the most important.

Air infiltration
Air infiltration can account for over 50% of the heating and cooling energy loss through the walls of a home. Thermo-ply controls air infiltration best.

The reasons are simple, Thermo-ply may be overlapped around corners. That means there are no cracks for air to infiltrate through. Thermo-ply is not porous. It also provides the tightest seal to the studs of any sheathing material on the market. This reduces air leakage problems significantly.

Rigid foam sheathings fail to make a tight seal if there is even the slightest curvature in the stud, or wherever a framing joint is offset, even by 1/16". Calculations show that a 1/16" gap around the perimeter of an average home can waste five times more energy than can be saved by adding two inches of additional insulation to the walls of a normally insulated house. Thermo-ply sheathing stops air infiltration at the outside walls where it starts, as indicated in the 1984 Department of Energy report.*

Porous blackboard and unfaced beadboard sheathings permit air to infiltrate through their surfaces, resulting in even greater air infiltration problems.
